Posted 18/09/2009 01:17:25 PM | | I have traced my branch of the Soham Johnsons back to 1702, and would like to make contact with other people with the same interest. The men in this line were all called Peachy (spelling varies), which seems to be more common as a surname. The most recent was my great grandfather Peachy Johnson born in 1847, who was a shoemaker.
This Peachy married Eliza Preston of Wicken in 1870, after which he lived in Wicken. My father remembered visiting the workshop as a youngster - he said it was more of a club for the "Old Buffers" of Wicken to meet up!!
Peachy's wife Eliza's mother, Sophia Marshall/Preston, and her unmarried sisters Mary Ann & Sophia Preston were living at 3 Tanner's Lane Soham in 1901 & 1911. They were Knitters and Needlewomen.
If anyone is interested in this family I have more info and photos to exchange and share.
