I have just read in our Local Paper that The Church Hall has been sold to the Developer, the St Andrews Church Parochial Council decided that they would sell to a Developer even though our Local Council and District Council had asked them to defere so that they could try and raise the funds to buy the hall and land for the Community, this is really atrocious, why couldn't they give the Council a chance, this site should remain for use by the Local Community, it was afterall subscribed to and funded by our Ancestors, we hold a magazine dated 1905 that was sold to raise funds for the hall that was eventually built in 1928, so as you can see it took many years to achieve this,I am sure our forebears thought that this hall would serve the community for many generations, how wrong can we be, Yes the Church needs repairs but why was this not taken into account when they decided that they need to build a toilet and kitchenette in the church, could the money for this project be better used on repairs, afterall the church has survived all these years without these facilities, so why does it need them now, There is a protest demonstration today ( 9th Feb ) from 1pm at the Church Hall site,in protest at the sale of the hall and the development of housing on the site, if you feel strongly that Soham as a community needs this area then please do attend and give your support, why should they get away with this,
